Right from swipe in to swipe out, life is full of music. Early in the morning, I hear clock ticking, hanging on my floor wall, irrespective whether it is showing IST or EST! This fades away, when I start typing, , often hitting backspace key (yeah, that’s the key to type a speckles document). I hear high heel shoes punishing the floor, making loud noise which is a BIG No! Attention seekers are huge market for shoe manufacturers! Coffee vending machine is on a song today, steamy noises along with the refilling timeouts, made me run away…(obviously, without making any noise).
A Cell phone rings--- should I describe variety of ringtones? Right from Shridevi-Rushi kapoor songs to Bryan Adams, we have it all! Message tones vary from a temple bell to toilet flush sound. People are so creatively notifies about calls, messages, and emails that they receive. Since I don’t enjoy a separate cabin, it is compulsory to hear, comprehend and be updated about what people talk about! Girls are busy convincing their boyfriend for a nice dinner in the evening or a weekend outing, guys flirting around or planning for a booze party, married women bitching about in-laws! We need to note that this isn’t called ‘eavesdropping’! Desk phone- this device serves a different menu altogether, right from useless personal loan approval calls, to calling on wrong extension numbers, it assures you will relish a 4 course meal. One thing common for this phone, is the ringing tone, which can’t be customized! As I write this, my cell rings…Thank God! It is on silent mode, or else my DUCKTALES ringtone would have made my team nostalgic.
There is a place in office, which is a damn silent place---conference room---only when no one is there. Otherwise, it is worst than a parliament. During the meetings apart from discussions, sound of & chairs, dial tone while login on to a bridge (before conference calls), and a sweat attractive voice saying, “please state your name after the beep, and press hash or pound sign”, gives me a breather. Silence heard between two sentences, when people search for answers (which they don’t have) provides me the ‘kick’ to be inside such meetings/tricky calls.
What is an office with no quarrels, which start off on illogical points and end at even more illogical conclusions! These quarrels are coupled with very creative background score of giggles, careful whispers and a visual effect of weird expressions nicely weaved with clever winks! This is more fun to see, through a glass; with a thin sound (read yelling), which helps us understand the subject of ‘strategic discussion’ (read appraisal meetings!) Just be careful to hide intelligently, or else keep this proverb in mind ‘People living in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones at others’.
And here arrives my favorite time in office, post lunch hours! Right from yawns, lazy walks to blissful (?) snoring, trance music isn’t required at all! But curiosity, to learn and experience new genres of trance music, keeps me awake! Tea time makes the day more cheerful, as 6 pm is couple of hours away. Humor cooks up, and roars of laughing sessions hit hard! Just like a Mexican wave during a soccer match! It becomes necessary to acquire a skill of identifying ‘teams’ based on their laughing patterns. No doubt, I am an expert!
Amongst all the interesting audio inputs, one sound is royally neglected, delicate sound of a mouse click! Another pattern is kind of, remains untouched, is the rhythm while typing, when we browse, chat or while we create a word document. Opening of doors, closing of drawers (driven by our mood) spice up musical journey. Evening grows louder when machines shut down, making us thank Windows shut down tune! More happy voices calling the day off, bid adios and swipe out- beep! Music in office doesn’t ONLY mean the sweet music that we face, from our BOSS!
